Notes: This is a pairing I'd never thought I'd write, even though I like both characters, for a fandom I never thought I'd write in, though I do like it, but that's also what Yuletide's for. It's set kind of before the series starts, but after the flashbacks.
Funnily enough, I had a very clear idea of where I wanted this fic to go, but it put up a bit of a struggle getting there. Also, I had this poem in my mind when I was writing it:
Love without hope, as when the young bird-catcher
Swept off his tall hat to the Squire's own daughter,
So let the imprisoned larks escape and fly
Singing about her head, as she rode by.
By Robert Graves.
All comments and criticisms appreciated.
( Blue Boy parties were always spectacular )

Notes: This is one of my guilty-pleasure, "No wait, it makes sense, really!", in the face of a lack of canon (or even fandom) support.
All comments and criticisms appreciated.

Notes: One of the things I like best about Yuletide is the chance to write in those fandoms you've always meant to write in, but never got around to, like this one for me.
All comments and criticisms appreciated.
( It's a good thing, Sendoh thinks, that he has a sense of humour. )

Mmm, Audio
Nov. 5th, 2006 11:42 pmFirstly, I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that pterodactyls make anything better.
Secondly, for those keeping track, QI season 1, season 2 and season 3 are all complete and up for download. I've also put up the first set of Old Harry's Game, which is a radio comedy series about Hell. Things you might find in Old Harry's Game include: a relentlessly optimistic athiest, the nastiest human ever (Director of a privatised water company, which even in 1995 was code for evil bastard), the truth about what Jane Austen was really like, Scumspawn's disturbingly deep, pure and sincere love for his Master and at least one dolphin intelligent enough to be damned.
Those of you that used to watch Drop the Dead Donkey can play Hey, It's That Guy with the cast and writers.

I'm easy, which is a tremendously unhelpful thing to say, but, there you go. I like cliches, I like emotional realism, I love people saying "I love you" without ever using the words, I like angst, so long as it's plausible, I like humour, I like... well, pretty much everything. The only things that I generally don't read more than once are hopeless misery -angst is one, as long as it's not utterly without hope for something better or different or other. AUs are fine, though dystopias don't really float my boat.
I have my favoured pairings but I'm really not wedded to the idea that A must be with B for the rest of their life, unchanging happily-ever-after, and break-ups might be horrible, but necessary, just in case that comes up in the fic. I like gen, het and slash. I'm pretty hard to squick.
What else? Well, I dislike bastardisation or bitchification of characters that aren't, you know, already utter bastards in their own right.
I hope, whoever you are, that you have fun writing the fic.

Oct. 25th, 2006 07:22 pmJust signed up for my first christmas/winter/yuletide type challenge,
3_ships. Some of you -particularly those of you that suffer cravings for, oh, Ichigo/Rukia/Renji or something similar- should join as well.
My motives in pimping this are entirely altruistic, honest!

Audio! For your listening pleasure.
Oct. 17th, 2006 07:30 pmSo I'm finally getting around to uploading various mp3s I've recorded from various sources. Savefile lets you upload to projects, which is rather convenient, but has a maximum filesize of 60 mb, which is less so.
The first project is all Terry Pratchett, recorded from BBC Radio 7. I'm uploading in bits and pieces, but I do have all of Mort, The Amazing Maurice and Guards! Guards! Most of these are over here, with the exception of The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, which has been put over here since it's bigger than Savefile's size limit. I'm very fond of this one, and not just because David Tennant is Dangerousbeans.
The other project are .mp3s of QI (Quite Interesting). That project is over here. Same as before, I'm uploading as and when I can. QI, for those across the pond and elsewhere, is a sort of game show, hosted by Stephen Fry, with obscure questions which may or may not involve the sky in ancient Greece or the reproductive habits of armadillos. The questions are generally so obscure, points are awarded for being quite interesting, and taken away for being obvious (and wrong, though that's secondary).

Work and music

Also, I saw Thea Gilmore in concert last night, at the Koko in Camden. She really is just amazingly good, and is disturbingly attractive for being 35 weeks pregnant. I think I prefer her live version of "Have you Heard", and I'm definitely going to get her newest album. Seriously, her voice is just a cut above the rest, you know? And she gives good concert, nice banter, but not so much talking, there's no space for the songs. Sadly, she didn't do "The dirt is your lover now" or "December in New York", but she did sing about half old songs, half from the new album, including "This Girl", "Mainstream", and "Juliet".
Really great voice-- like I think she actually manages to sound better in concert than on disc. Speaking of discs, I managed to pick up a spare freeby dvd which has three tracks off her new album, so if anyone wants it, let me know.
