So, I get a lot of my music from my dad -my foundation music, before I even got music from my peers and TV. Stuff like this is part of it. Released a couple of years before I was gone, and recently purchased by me for my dad on CD. It's a bit hard to take his records in the car. I’m feeling a little nostalgic, so…

This is the protest rock of apocalypse-is-just-around-the-corner, the government-are-all-bastards, left-wing anger.
Tom Robinson Band, Power In The Darkness

Up Against The Wall
Darkhaired dangerous schoolkids Vicious, suspicious sixteen Jet-black blazers at the bus stop Sullen, unhealthy and mean )

You Gotta Survive
Carrion crows on the motorway Old woman dying of the plague She cried 'put me out of my misery' Charlie had to give her his blade )
One of my favourite post-apocalypse songs

Man You Never Saw
Don't repeat this conversation Don't let on we've met before Try and make like I'm a stranger I'm a man you never saw )
My dad, when he was at uni, had a flatmate who was on a government list. he'd get all his mail opened before it was delivered, and some bits wouldn't get delivered at all, and he always tells me this whenever he listens to this song.

Ain't Gonna Take It

I'm a middle-class kiddie, but I know where I stand... )

Long Hot Summer

All this heat, Out on the street, Telling us to move along It's gonna be a long, hot summer from now on. )

Winter of '79
All you kids that just sit and whine You should have been there back in '79 )
It amuses me that Spurs beating Arsenal (football) is considered one of the signs of the collapse of civilisation. Or possibly I'm just reading too much in to this

2-4-6-8 Motorway

Ain't no use setting off with a bad companion. )

Let me know if any of the links aren't working and I'll sort it out in the morning. Cultural notes are available on request.
jamjar: (Uh...)
This, okay, there's no easy way to say this, but Beautiful, by Fur Patrol is a Lana/Clark song.

And yes, I did feel dirty after I had that thought, but it's a good song anyway.

You bring rain and sun when everything's gone )

To make myself feel cleaner, Short Skirt/Long Jacket is *such* a Kon song.

I want a girl with a short skirt and a loooooooong jacket )

Love What's Gone by Jim's Big Ego is also a Kon song.

and I don't really think that I like this game )

And Faster Than The Speed of the Night by Bonnie Tyler contains the lines "You're such a pretty boy, let me show you what to do and you'll do it, but you've got to move faster..." and thus gets to be a Bart-song.

Also, three songs that cover the basic themes of (English) folk music. Two Sisters, (Murder), April Morning, (fickleness/infidelity/gather ye rosebuds) and Lord Bateman(bold women kind of rock). All sung by Jim Moray.
jamjar: (I had the conch)
01) Total volume of music files on my computer?
3.63 gb. Ooh, palindromic!

02) The last CD I bought was...
Hmm. Dresden Dolls, I think, or possibly Transplant.

03a) The last song I listened to before writing this was...
Prettiness by Noe Venables (also available on her website).

03b) Song playing right now:
Living Room, Tegan & Sarah

04) Five songs I listen to a lot that mean a lot to me.
This was hard because I listen to music a *lot*. )

05) Which 5 people are you passing this baton to, and why?

[ profile] thete1, for the music pimping runs strong in that one.
[ profile] derryderrydown, because she's already humiliated herself musically once already today.
[ profile] caithion, because I still have three CDs of hers.
[ profile] liviapenn, because misery loves company.
[ profile] brown_betty, because I just want to know.

Random pimping!
The New Kid, The Old 97s
A New England (Billy Bragg cover), New Model Army
I'm Your Man, Leonard Cohen.
Sleep The Clock Around, Belle and Sebastian.
You Sound Like Louis Burdett, The Whitlams.
jamjar: (Cass is so very *much*)
Feeling the Cass-love at the moment, so two songs that make me think of her

Brightest Star, Fur Patrol

Say goodbye, you’ve got yourself a daughter Brought her up to think like one of your own kind )

Pata Pata, by Miriam Makeba

Cass has the *best* smile. She really does. And she can be *happy*, without being all... thing.

But honestly, I sometimes think Certain People in a Certain Family are often happier than they let themself acknowledge.
