It's up and all over here. First off, I got an excellent Querl Dox fic, Demythologizers, which is amazingly written and has Braniac 5 being brilliant, manipulative and playing scrabble when he's not playing other games. It's absolutely fantastic, with aliens being just as alien as they should be, spot-on characterisation, intelligence and... it's just really, reaaly good and you all should read it.

Other recommendations: Bright Iron, Bitter Ashes, featuring Cinderella from Fables. Beautifully written, frequently disturbing. Highly recommended.

Dream Fish, Arthur Curry (Aquaman), DCU. Nicely written, some nice lines and excellent guest-appearance.

Mentor Management, Mia Dearden (Arrowfamily/Titans). Good team fic, as well as good Mia fic. "See, the med-lab is white, and your costume is black, yellow, green and red, and your face is still a little bit pink. So you don't blend in with the walls, Robin." The sort of fic that one feels should be longer, or maybe in a series, sort of like only getting the one issue of a title you like.

Yet Unfound, Owen Mercer/Harkness, DCU. Family, and the final section just gets me.

Para-dox, Querl Dox, DCU. Another Braniac 5 fic, in a different style to the other, but also well worth reading. Bonus points for excellent use of footnotes and hints of Hitchhiker's Guide.

Leaf The Flying To Us, Vril Dox, DCU [L.E.G.I.O.N]. Botanical experiments, yay!

Take Your Carriage Clock And Shove It, Thessaly, Vertigo. Feels very Gaimen-ish, this one.

Fic recs: Excellent Samurai Champloo fic over here by [livejournal.com profile] springgreen. Warnings for post-series and special mochi.

Very good Doctor Who fic by Cryptile. Alien libraries. WIP< but getting updated frequently. Check out her other fic as well while you're there.

Comic rec:
Webcomics about wombats and dead gods are intrinsically wonderful, especially when they occasionally contain geological humour and special appearances by a statue of Ganesh.

Also, Terry Pratchett's Mort will be playing on BBC Radio 7 from this Saturday.

Firstly, [livejournal.com profile] rubynye has been doing an icon fic meme over here, and has done a lovely OT3 for me over here, which you should all go and read.

[livejournal.com profile] girl_starfish has made me a happy bunny by writing some GO/DCU fic.

Agonie Aunte can be found over here.

When precognatives and time-travellers collide!

Stories to Tell and Tell are both Cissie King-Jones (Young Justice) stories. Identity and legacies and connections. Both are well-written and both seem very *Cissie* to me, while being distinct and separate.

Animation
Justin Thomas (Toonverse, DCU)
All heroes are fanboys. Some fanboys will be heroes. Nice Justin/Robin interaction, which makes absolute sense.

Radio Free Keystone
Pied Piper (Flash, DCU)
Great fic, characterisation that makes me want to re-read everything with Piper in it, and especially re-read the most recent Flash issues.

Respect
Brainiac 5 (Legion of Superheroes, DCU)
Being unappreciated sucks. Nice use of side-characters.

Say Goodnight, Grace
Grace Choi (Outsiders, DCU)
Another nice Grace fic. Between this and 4CH, she's been doing rather well for herself lately.

The Only Constant
Jenny Sparks (The Authority)
Fits not just the character, but the tone of the series.

Peril For Advanced Beginners
Tyler Marlocke (PS238, Independent)
For those who haven't read this series, PS238 is a public elementary school for meta-prodigies. Tyler is a perfectly normal boy, who's been sent there by his superhero parents in the belief that his powers will manifest themselves, probably at some suitably dramatic moment, and that putting him in peril will probably make this happen sooner. In an attempt to at least give him some chance of surviving until graduation, the school gets him a mentor in the form of the Revenant, a non-meta hero.
This fic, as well as having good, solid Tyler-characterisation, feeds my fetish for backstory. Good use of incidental characters, good knowledge of canon, and back-story that makes perfect *sense*. Love.

Semper Britannica
Captain Britain (Excalibur, Marvel)

Very well-written, slight AU, and makes use of-- hmm. Background mythology? No sudden appearances of gods or fairies, but the kind of historical myths that affect the present. Brian wasn't my favourite character, but this fic does a good and plausible job of him.

Business Call
Eddie Flyers (Green Arrow, DCU)

I don't know much about the character, but after reading the fic I feel like I do. As well as having a good main focus, the relationships with other characters, the way they relate to each other, is perfectly drawn. Exactly how it could happen

Unsorted
Gwen Stacy (Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel)
I really liked this character. This fic shows why.

Yesterday, for a long while
Barbara Gordon (toonverse, Batman Beyond, DCU)
*Yes*. Not just good for Babs herself, although that's rock-solid, so good it hurts characterisation, but also for how Babs sees the others. The things she notices, the thing she says and thinks... Gorgeous.

Coffee and Madness
Plastic Man (JLA, DCU)
Yay! I was so happy when I saw this on the index, and then I read it and I was even happier because it was everything I'd hoped. Eel and Batman and excellent interaction. W00t!

Right On Target
Cissie King-Jones / Arrowette

I knew there was going to be some good Cissie-fic out of this challenge, and I wasn't disappointed. This fic has Cissie and Speedy, and Cissie's difficulties with being replaced -which, you know, there's canon for, and Anita wasn't even another archer- and with her decision, full-stop, and the way you're rarely 100% sure of anything. Absolutely and exactly what the character demands.

Bedlam Boys (and Girls)
Courtney Whitmore / Star-Spangled Kid II

Fun, and with plausible guest appearances, and Courtney acts exactly her age. And Bart acts his, kind of. Depending on what you count his age as, of course.

The Things They Know
Barbara Gordon / Oracle

Excellent Babs POV, unsympathetic, unapologetic, even when she'd dealing with sympathy, damaged and still triumphant. This fic forces me to quote Beth Orton, but, "I've been a victim, I'll be no casualty." And this line: The thing about robins, like all birds, is that they're not meant to be bound to the ground, or the wheels. Robins have to fly free. You can't domesticate one.

Or maybe you can, if you're willing to risk the pain of knowing it might not work, but that's one of the things that Barbara doesn't think about.
Just gets me.

Rolling with the Punches
Grace Choi

Early Outsiders, and Grace is settling in just fine. Great Grace characterisation, and a good look at the rest of the team -at the Outsiders' set-up- from her perspective.

Under Pressure
Grace Choi

Grace back-story, well-written, and pretty much establishing itself as canon in my mind. This fic just works, in every way.

(Not Quite The) World's Finest

Fat, Drunk Wonder Girl

I love this canon AU, and this fic puts us in an entirely plausible future fo that world, and does some excellent thinsg with teh characters in the process. A fic that makes me scream "Sequel!"

En Passant.
Sasha Bordeaux, Danette Reilly / Firebrand II, Anita Fite / Empress, and Mari Jiwe McCabe / Vixen

First off, I only know one of the characters in here, but this fic made me rally want to know the others. Good for action, characterisation that works, and manages to bring in a lot of characters without making it awkward or confusing.

Just a Part of You
Luornu Durgo / Triad (LEGION)

Woo. An it's only-incest-if-it's-not-masturbation fic, that manages to be the good kind of painful and leaves you searching for the issues that come after.

To Wish Possible Things
Mia Dearden/Speedy II

Not just reccing this because it was written for me, but because it hits just about every right note for these characters. It's family and training and just the whole arrow crew being themselves, for better or worse, and just... yeah.

The Nature of the World
Pamela Isley / Poison Ivy

Beautifully written, and absolutely perfect for the character.
