Five things Superman has seen, for rubynye


1) The sunrise for a little over 24 hours. It's just a matter of concentration and focus, keeping your speed steady. An exercise in self-control, he told Bruce. A vacation, he told his parents.

He probably should have stopped after 12.

2) Pluto, and in his opinion, it's lucky to even be called a dwarf planet.

3) Batman smile, which happens more often than most people might think. Sincerely, which happens more often, Clark suspects, than Bruce would like to think it does.

4) Almost every member of the JLA, past and present, naked, undercover as some kind of sex worker, and under the influence of sex pollen, alien pheromones, divine intervention or mating instinct. Fortunately, never all of thsoe conditions at the same time.

5) The future. It's better than you might think.


Five things Ichigo likes about his snazzy bankai for bravecows

1) Zangetsu isn't a sword, not like the others'. Zangetsu is a working blade made large. Swords, Ichigo secretly suspects, are things samurai have, and in his 21st century, proletarian soul, Ichigo strongly suspects all samurai were arrogant bastards. It doesn't necessarily mean that everyone with a sword is an arrogant bastard that thinks he's better than everyone else, but he reckons it's probably a pretty good indicator.
Also, he likes to think that, in a world without shinigami and hollows and so on, he and Zangetsu could have opened a sushi shop or something.

2)Zangetsu smells right, like real metal and cloth. When the shinigami show theirs, even Rukia, they never smell quite right. Shirayuki smelt like cold, but more like the description of it than the real thing, Zabimaru smelt like the description of dry.

He's never asked the others if it's the same for them.

3) Zangetsu shows Ichigo his best, so Ichigo has something to aim at.

4) He's always there, on the edge of his mind. Ichigo doesn't talk to himself much, but he likes the weird sort of companionable silence that goes on in his head sometimes.

5) When the coat goes on him, it feels almost like it did when his mother would hug him, bending down to reach, and her hair would fall around like a blanket or a shield.

The sad thing about all the AUs where Superman becomes a fascist god-like dude who dictatorises everyone and Batman or somebody has to TAKE HIM DOWN is that I, I'm kind of on Superman's side. "Of course everyone would worship Superman as a god!" sez the fangirl brain. "AS IT SHOULD BE."

And the Ichigo one! SQUEEEEEE. At "21st century, proletarian soul" I pretty much dropped off my chair and rolled around in GLEE. And, and the sushi shop! I flail!

Um. I have no idea what you could mean by that. I've certainly never thought that way myself... *whistles, innocently*.

Well, you know. I enjoyed Superman Returns so much largely because its guiding philosophy appeared to be "SUPERMAN IS JESUS ONLY HE CAN FLY".

Very nice. The Superman one does the optimistic boy scout thing without making you think "Hah, naive fool. Grit more, noob."
That's something the world could use more of, I think.

The Bleach one's a little bit meh, but only because it's difficult to top that first point; all other facts pale before the majesty of Proletarian!Ichigo.

Some people do seem to think of Superman as... well, naive. Less intelligent than Batman. Which is irritating, because he's intelligent, he's a reporter, he's a hell of a lot more aware of what's going on the world than Batman -he can't help but be- and I suspect he sees even more of humanity's terrible side than Bruce does. he's not naive, because he knows what the world is like. He's not blind or stupid, he just... well, sees something better.

I'm telling you, the next time Ichigo goes to Soul Society, he'll be humming the Internationale.
