So, a little while back, [livejournal.com profile] girl_starfish declared that she was, in face, Queen of the Tentacles. This came as a surprise to her friends, although perhaps not as much as it should have been.

I made this in response.

The pattern is basically this ridged hat from Head Huggers, a charity knit organisation, slightly adapted. The tentacles are made with the ruffle/potato chip technique (knitting into the front and back of each stich on every even row, knitting all the odds). The coloured wool was koolade-dyed.

The ear flaps were added later, because [livejournal.com profile] girl_starfish was worried about it staying on. As far as I can remember, I just CO twenty stitches in the white, went on for a bit, started decreasing and switched the coloured, then just single-crocheted the end of that with my fingers for the cord and sewed them on. The whole thing was pretty quick to make.

Shh. She may expect that if you ever see her wearing it.

It's just nice to be able to say that I made a tentacle hat for my friend. And then I think that she'll be wearing a tentacle hat in Japan. And in a Japanese school, no less. I don't know if her new school has sailor-fuku type uniforms, but if it does...

Thank you! but really, if one of your friends makes a declaration concerning royalty and tentacles, what else can you do?

That is absolutely adorable. I am going to ask my roommate's mother to teach me to knit, so I can learn how to make fun things like and BATMAN scarves. ;;)

Knitting is just surprisingly easy. [livejournal.com profile] girl_starfish only taught me how to in January, so this and the Batman Beyond scarf really don't need a lot of skill.

There's something very satisfying about making someone a tentacle hat. I probably shouldn't examine that too closely.
