Knitting: tentacle hat

girl_starfish declared that she was, in face, Queen of the Tentacles. This came as a surprise to her friends, although perhaps not as much as it should have been.
I made this in response.
The pattern is basically this ridged hat from Head Huggers, a charity knit organisation, slightly adapted. The tentacles are made with the ruffle/potato chip technique (knitting into the front and back of each stich on every even row, knitting all the odds). The coloured wool was koolade-dyed.
The ear flaps were added later, becausegirl_starfish was worried about it staying on. As far as I can remember, I just CO twenty stitches in the white, went on for a bit, started decreasing and switched the coloured, then just single-crocheted the end of that with my fingers for the cord and sewed them on. The whole thing was pretty quick to make.
