What they don't get, not even Wally, not really, is that it takes *effort* to slow down. Not physical effort, but like, *mental* effort.

This is the thing, or this is one of things. Bart doesn't have a baseline for normal; he's picking it up as he goes along. It's *easy* for Wally and Jay to tell him to slow down, but they know what it's like to run at normal speed. They have a resting heartbeat and Bart--

Well, he probably does, he just doesn't know what it is. He can't just look in himself and fall back into a resting state. He doesn't have that place to work from.

Which is why sitting next to Kon is probably the best kind of meditation, and he really wishes he could tell Max that all that deep-breathing, listening-to-yourself stuff just doesn't work for him, never did, probably never will, and what he needs, what *works* is this:

Leaning in so he can hear Kon's heart beat and feel the steady rise and fall of his chest as he watches TV, one hand on the remote, lazily drifting through channels until he finds something worth watching, and then just breathing while Bart slows down until their heartbeats match.
