So, a little while ago, and for reasons best left undiscussed, [livejournal.com profile] petronelle and myself wrote A Bird In The Hand (or, How To Marry A Millionaire), featuring Nightwing and Bruce Wayne, Playboy Billionaire.

Obviously, after having written Nightwing/Bruce Wayne, we had to write Dick Grayson/Batman for balance. Specifically, and for reasons that had nothing to do with any fetishes we might have for Dick in uniform, we had to write Officer Grayson/Batman. So we did.

Authors: [livejournal.com profile] petronelle and [livejournal.com profile] jamjar
Fandom: DCU (goes AU post-Nightwing 100), Gotham Central/Batfamily.
Series: How to Marry a Millionaire

The main premise won't make much sense if you haven't read Part 1 or don't remember it clearly. Parts 2 and 3 run parallel.

Part 1: A bird in the hand (Bruce Wayne/Nightwing)
Summary: Bruce Wayne has a taste for the exotic.

Parts 2 & 3: Pay No Attention & Moonlighting

Part 2: Pay No Attention (Officer Grayson/Batman)
Summary: "In Gotham City's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Crimes Unit. These are their stories."

Part 3: Moonlighting (Bruce Wayne/Nightwing)
Summary: Stolen mornings and moments make for an odd affaire du coeur.

Notes: Betty is a beta goddess. Kitsune provided some consultation with regards to American police departments. Red Eft's art contributed beauty and morale at important junctures. Various other people cheerleaded, held hands, and were generally wonderful. Google told us scary things about laws in different states.

Warnings: Anyone with an allergy to identity porn would do best to avoid this entire fandom, but most particularly these stories. You did see the pairings, right? Adult content.

Disclaimer: The only ones who are our characters are the bad guys, and not even all of those belong to us.

All feedback, positive and negative, greatly appreciated.

It blew my expectations clean out of the water. Possibly stratospheric.

I left Petra this note but you also deserve it, and I would have left it for you before had events not intervened:

This is a tour de force. Oh, MAN. It's utterly splendid and gotrgeous and never misstepped, add I love the chronological organization, interweaving these different relationships (and the professional life of Officer Grayson, and my God but Dagmar is magnificent, and the only thing better than the case is the way you unfolded it) .

(And Bruce provoked Dick into topping? DAMN. )

("I'm good at figuring people out, as long as I'm not too close to them.." OW OW OW!)

(The paralell of Bruce having called Nightwing "Dick" and Batman nearly calling Officer Grayson "Robin", oh my.)

More later, more later! But I had to tell you this now!
(Oh, and GOD, BRUCE. *smacks Bruce with several large heavy blunt objects*)

Thanks! I have such love for Dagmar and Tommy- trust me to read an excellent series like Gotham Central and fixate on characters who basically have one issue and a couple of panels scattered around.

The organisation was hard but Petra rocks at that stuff. Seriously, it'd just be a mess if she didn't get it beaten in to shape. And Bruce provoking Dick was Petra's bunny too, though I may have comandeered it.

It was good to write -fun, when it didn't have us running screaming from our own heads.

This is a seriously loopy and twisty thing that is completely suited to the twisty minds of the protagonists. And possibly the authors, although I make no such allegations. Bizarre and surreal, it puts the reader in Dick's place as he navigates in the shadows and streetlights of Gotham, confronting the twin princes of Gotham by day and Gotham by night.

The athours would like to point out that their minds, while possibly twisted, are not *loopy*. Twisted, but not actually loopy.

The authors are then reminded of certain aspects of the fic (the naming of the toys) and run away avoiding eye-contact.

The authors place blame for certain aspects of the fic at *other people's feet," who are not actually credited for said inspiration but who are responsible for it nonetheless.

That's my story, anyhow.
