Sequel to this Ray/Bart gen I wrote.

"Hey Bart, sorry I'm late but-- whoa. Homework? You're doing homework?" Ray picks the book off the table. "Shouldn't this take you about three seconds?"

Bart makes a face. "I get a lot more essays now. They keep saying stuff about how I've got to show understanding of the facts, you know? Except it's not enough for me to say that I get it, I've got to write it down so they can get that I get it."

Ray picks up a notebook. Bart's handwriting is messy, changing angles, stretching long and thin and then short and round in the space of a sentence. "You do everything with handwriting? Pretty old school."

Bart shrugs. "I type it up if it's got to look pretty, but it faster this way. Computers are fun, but they're kinda slow."

Ray looks at him. "Slower than writing?"

"Slower than my brain," Bart says. He waves the pad about. "It's just… computers have this upper limit on how fast they go when you write, right? You fill up the cache and then you have to wait *seconds* for it to empty again. Paper, all you need to worry about is accidentally setting it on fire, and I haven't done that in ages." He grins. "Plus, I don’t think is should make it too easy for the teachers. Jay says my handwriting is almost illegible."

"You've got an evil side to you," Ray says. He picks up one sheet of lined A4 and tries to remember the last time he actually wrote a solid page of text, not just taking notes or brain-storming, with an actual pen and paper.

Bart shrugs. "I think it's a subconscious desire for privacy. Like, I don’t actually want people reading my private thoughts."

"Even the ones about the role of animals in Elizabethan poetry?" Ray says. "Your subconscious is that keen on protecting your privacy?"

"Dude, it's my subconscious. I don’t tell it what to do, I just keep it satisfied with displacement activities and lots of TV."

And it's weird talking to Bart sometimes, because he's still Bart, and then he'll say something like that and it's… well, still him, just not a him Ray knows.

A sense that what you're saying is being remembered and referenced against other things. It's cool, if a little intimidating, and Ray doesn't know if it's better or worse that it's *Bart* that's looking at him like that.

Bart throws the pencil down. "This sucks. It's like I'm getting punished for being clever and ahead of the other kids." He pouts. "Do you think this is what Robin feels like? Argh!" He grabs his hair with both hands. "This is, like sucking the words out of me! I can’t think of any! They're all gone, and I'm stuck staring at this stupid piece of paper and I could get it done in two seconds even if I could just think of something to--"

"Bart, relax. You need to stop thinking." Ray shakes his head. "You have no idea how creepy it is saying that to you." He plucks the pencil out of Bart's hand. "Play some video games or something." He smiles. "Sometimes you need to turn your brain off before you can turn it back on. Reboot."

Bart looks at him, then is standing up in his Kid Flash gear. "I am so using that the next time Jay wants me to study."

End.

Heh. Yes, Bart, that is what happens to Robin. Except Robin also pushes himself to be the bestest ever Toy Wonder.

And they both have to deal with Bart, which is something else they have in common.

Very cute! I love it when Bart's harder facets gleam for a moment and take people by surprise.

I hate that you made me realize what I don't like about my Bart characterization. It's pre-grok. This? Definitely post-grok.

Bart. Mmmm. Want to lick his brain.

Characterisation's a funny beast.

I just want to keep a little Bart under my desk. I could slip him biscuits and he could fact-check for me.

Aww, *Bart*. The computer thing makes a lot of sense, and I love Bart's bits of self-analysis amidst his essential... Bart-ness.

One thing-
They're all gone, and I'm be staring
I'm assuming "I'm be" is a typo?

Otherwise, *thumbs up* yay. Bart. <3

Thanks for the feedback, and for spotting the typo. It should be fixed now.

Way cool. I like the 'Reboot' comment -- there are so many of Bart's lines that I love.
