Date: 2005-08-13 06:36 am (UTC)Vril Dox: You, and all your descendants we've thus far met are trapped in a white room with no possibility of escape. So... how would you delegate taking over the universe?

Date: 2005-08-13 06:54 am (UTC)Fortunately, my advice concerning his Companionship with Mercury's Childe did, and he did nurture it in the Light and in the Darke, and made ryte goode use of thee closestes.
Vril Dox: I have no desire to take over the universe. My only aim is to see that it remains out of teh control of the endless, mindless ambitions fo whatever power-seeker is after it this week. This does sometimes involve putting it out of the reach and into the hands of another (and I am almost always the best option when one considers the ability as well as the desire to hold a world in trust), but that does not equate with wanting to "take over the universe."
That said, it depends on the exact situation. Of course, many of my descendents have greated embedded technology than myself, which I could make use of in my escape. It's entirely possible that I could manipulate Querl Dox's jacks to communicate with the outside world, in which case I would manage my interests long-distance.
In the absence of any consistent means of communication, I would appoint Phase acting head, with Captain Comet as a reasonable second. This would be an interrim condition, since my research has shown that a Terran-based hero known as Red Tornado II has the ethical, intellectual and social development necessary to serve in my place, and his experience dealing with juvenile minds with too much power would transfer well to the field of intergalatic political management.
I have made contact with one Thaddeus Thawne, and we have much in common. If I could ensure that he would not turn evil, that he'd broken of the conditioning and developed a reasonable moral core, I might find a place for him in my organisation.

Date: 2005-08-13 07:53 am (UTC)Who's more of a ho -- you or Dick? And if you *hadn't* managed to get Wally into the sack, who were you gonna go for? And if you had a choice between playing with Dick *or* -- I know this is a diffcult concept, bear with me -- Babs, who would you pick and why?

Date: 2005-08-13 08:08 am (UTC)Okay, your questions. See, the first one's tricky. If we're talking quantative, then Dick has me beat, hands down. He's just had longer to get around, you know? But *qualitative*, that's a different story. And hey, it's not like we planned on Wally per se. It's not like we made Bruce take us up to the tower so we could pick up speedster ass. Zero gravity and Dick would have been enough for me.
But I wouldn't have been kicking Superman out of bed either, even if Dick might have taken some persuading. J'onn is something we both could agree on. Wonder Woman, there'd be Bruce to consider, and Bruce is way too much of an only child to be good sharing his toys with the other kids.
Babs? Babs? Babs is... Babs. It's not that she's not hot -she's *Babs*- but... Huh. If the choice came up, I don't know that I'd even think it was a choice, because Dick is kind of the default and Babs is *Babs*.
And I'm pretty sure that this isn't an either/or question, 'cause if I played with Babs, Dick's gonna be in the room in one way or another.

Date: 2005-08-14 01:44 am (UTC)My family is extensive. Or non-existent. It's a matter of perspective, and perspective is flexible. You do what you have to do for it, because of it, and you try to keep it whole, even if that means removing parts.
It doesn't matter if they're gone, because they're always still there.
(Sidenote: Variant is one of those stories that I periodically think about redoing, or at least touching up. It's one of my favourite that I've written, but not so much for *how* it was written, you know?)
