Thoughts on JL 1x08
My main thought was that this episode *worked*. I can;t say it was my favourite, since there was a shortage of characters I love -and they've had Reddy in two eps, won't they please give him something to say?- but that's more or less redundant.
The episode worked. It hung together as whole. Characters were pretty much in character and the non-core cast had a purpose. There were reasons why they chosen, reasons why they worked well together. Reasons why it was *them*, why the core cast wouldn't have been appropriate.
Also, I admire the bluff on "help from an old friend"/"Hawkgirl makes an appearance". Again, I would have liked to see more of her, but it still worked.
And I'll repeat my claim that JLU needs the double episodes. The episodes that have worked best have been the ones with some kind of continuation-- characters we already know, and/or picking up from old stories.
This episode used the past, and it worked.
