15 songs meme (v2.0)

Slight adapation of the meme that's going around.  Same rules- fire up the mp3 player and list the first 15 songs that pop up at random, but with one addition- Add one line that sums up the feel of the song, why you have it on your playlist, and doesn't include the title (Easier for some songs than others).

  1. Sleep to Dream - Fiona Apple - "I could swallow the seas to wash down all this pride."
  2. General Taylor - Great Big Sea - "His shroud of the finest silk will be made."
  3. Big Calm - Morcheeba - "Fuck that bullshit, rather walk alone."
  4. What do you hear in these sounds - Dar Williams - "I don't go to therapy to find out if I'm a freak"
  5. Floorboard blues - Cowboy Junkies - "Don't accuse me of running scared, listen to what I'm saying/It's a fucked up old world, but this old girl, she ain't giving in."
  6. The Weakness in Me (acoustic) - Melissa Etheridge - "I'm not the sort of person who falls in and quickly out of love."
  7. A Case Of You - Tori Amos (Joni Mitchell cover) - "I'm frightened by the devil and I'm drawn to those who ain't afraid."
  8. Keep Myself Awake - Black Lab - "It's always cold, it's always day."
  9. Sorted for Es and Whizz - Pulp - "Is this the way they say the future's meant to feel/or just twenty-thousand people standing in a field?"
  10. The Chemical Worker's Song - Great Big Sea - "It's go, boys, go, they'll time your every breath/And every day you're in this place, you're two days closer death."
  11. Every Me and Every You - Placebo - "Carve your name into my arm, instead of stressed I lie here charmed."
  12. In Persuit of Happiness - Divine Comedy - "And if it's alright, I'd kind of like to be your lover."
  13. Run for Cover - Sugababes - "I keep it to myself, It doesn't really matter."
  14. Gin Soaked Boy - Divine Comedy - "I'm the half-truth in the lie, I'm the why not in the why, I'm the old school in the tie, I'm Jeff Goldblum in The Fly."
  15. Don't you fall - Be Good Tanyas - "I can't give you what you want from me, I don't want the attention."

1- not my favourite Apple song, but sometimes I get in a mood for her music, the girl and a piano stuff so here it is.  I have a preference for deeper voices.
2 and 10- I like Great Big Sea.  It's the combination of drinking music, good, male harmonies, traditional songs and new ones.  Very Canadian.
3- Hard to pick a line, because the song is mostly instrumental.  I do like Morcheeba.  I went on a spree recently because I was trying to find some British songs slow enough I could use them in class.  It got me back in touch with Morcheeba, which is nice.
4- Dar Williams.  A Song about therapy that isn't dull or whiney.  I almost picked a different line for this song:
When I talk about therapy,
I know what people think
That it only makes you selfish
And in love with your shrink
But oh, how I loved everybody else
When I finally got to talk so much about myself."
And then I realised that wasn't a line, that was a verse.
5- Cowboy Junkies are one of my old favourites.  Just a very good band, with some beautiful songs.  Seven Years and Cold Tea Blues are probably my favourites, or at least the ones I play the most, but I love the tag on this song.
6- The Weakness in Me- one of the better tempted/adulterer songs.  Sadder and I'm not as angry with the singer for cheating on their SO.
7- A Case of You- easy to listen to, I suppose, than the original, although i like that too.
8- My neighbour that I babysat for had the Buffy soundtrack.
9- Pulp is one my bands.  I was in secondary schoolnduring the Britpop explosion and Pulp was mine (although I liked Blur too, and didn't mind some oasis).  Again, it's probably in part because of the deep voice, but also the familiarity of some of the songs, the way some of the music is darker -losers and the morning afters so on.  And then there are a few songs, like Something Changed, which are just- love.  And Common People amuses me, because my brother dated a woman from that song.  How life doth mimic art.
11- I love a good, chant-y song.
12 and 14- Divine Comedy are so very good.  They wrote a song about hayfever!  Specifically, about not giving in to hayfever and enjoying Summer anyway!  Not either of these songs, but they're great too.
13- Sugababes are three british singers (RnB, pop).  They're very small, and they can sing, and they wear pvc and look normal- I mean, like real people their age, maybe a little puppy fat.  A pop weakness, but eh.  I'm not ashamed to admit it.
15- I also like some bluegrass.
